Chakra is the Sanskrit word meaning wheel or cycle. Our chakras are spinning wheels of light that directly inform and animate our physical bodies. After all of the experiences and profound initiations that I have witnessed in my Shamanic work, I can state beyond a doubt that we are much more than our physicality. We are Spiritual beings having a human experience in this classroom called Planet Earth. And my death doula experiences and all of the evidence we have regarding near-death experiences further underscores this basic truth.
As such we are energy, and everything is connected energetically. This energy field extends out beyond our bodies, ideally at least 3-4 feet. And just as we need to clean and tend to our physical bodies, we also need to keep our energetic body clean and clear.
When we experience trauma in any form, it carries with it an energetic component. For instance, if someone yells at us, or we experience a car accident, the energy behind these events can create what is known as an energetic imprint. Left unattended, these imprints in our energetic bodies can ultimately lead to physical, mental and emotional problems, including chronic disease and illness.
In a Shamanic session we work together as client and facilitator to clear the imprints of trauma and build a stronger foundation from which to live our lives. This is true power. In these sessions I function as the “hollow bone,” and join the client’s higher essential self with universal healing energy and the love and support of the client’s helping, healing compassionate spirits to clear the imprints of trauma.
Once these imprints are cleared, clients can then clear their own chakras a daily basis, keeping their energy fields clear, strong and in balance. Here’s how:
1. Imagine that your body is the face of a clock. (Your forehead being 12 o’clock, for instance.)
2. Beginning at the root, clear the chakra with your hand by spinning it counter clockwise, or to the right.
3. Continue moving up the body, chakra by chakra, shaking off the energy into the ground from each chakra before moving to the next. (You can also dip your hand in water in between each, a handy way to clear the energy when bathing, for example.)
4. Once each of the 7 chakras has been cleared, return to the root chakra. This time spin the hand clockwise (or left) to get the energy moving in a clockwise direction once again. No need to shake energy off the hand in between as you rewind.
